Medisana Upcoming In East Asian Countries

The manufacturer of diabetic products called Medisana is now expanding to East Asia. They already export to Malaysia and Singapore, and are planning to expand even more at the end of 2013. Medisana said this during a press conference which is given last week in Munich. They have a high market share in the European countries. America is still unknown for the company, since the competition there is very high. Gmate has a large market share in America, but still has difficulties with the Asian market. This also affected the decision of Medisana to focus on the Asian market.

Medisana and the Asian Market

The Asian market is rather easy compared to the European market. They Asian population is more like the American population. Almost solely focused on consumption, they rather spend than save. This is very different from the European approach. Where people save a lot and consume carefully. In the city centres of Asian cities you find a lot of shopping malls. The centres are almost solely focused on the shopping experience. That is also a reason why "shopping" scores high points when Asian people go on holiday. For Europeans this is more culture and food instead of buying stuff.

How is Medisana Going to Attract New Customers?

The products need to be exported to Asia, which means extra costs. But they have to sell them for a lower price to attract new consumers. This is exactly what Medisana is doing. They give discounts or for example sell a cheap glucose meter and expensive test strips. Still, a lot of consumers fall for this kind of marketing. Medisana currently has Asian managers who make sure the operation goes as planned. With this, they also gained knowledge of the Asian markets which makes it easier to implement new managing styles.
